Panos Mehalitsenos
Panos pulled out his phone and began to mash buttons. Pulling the phone mere inches from his face he studied the screen drunkenly. His eyes squinted and he tried again to hit the button that would lead to his contacts menu.
Finally and very carefully (read: slowly) he found Shay's name in the lineup. He hit his talk button and then the realization hit him. It just might be too late for a phone call.
Well he would appologize for it later. He had wanted to appologize anyways and he could lump them together now!
He listen to the ring and swayed to the music of it. He looked a tad silly but he didnt seem to care.
Shay
How long the phone had been ringing, Shay had no idea. The main thing though was that she'd fallen asleep in the tub, and now was making a slippery, mad dash for her office.
"Hello?? Hello?? I'm here...sorry..."
Her voice was hoarse from sleep, and she was now beginning to shiver from the cool air on her wet body. But on the very off chance it was Mathias, calling to tell her the whole thing had been a huge mistake, she couldn't risk not answering.
She grabbed the comforter and threw it over her shoulders.
Panos Mehalitsenos
Shalimar O Mannon
"Hello?? Hello?? I'm here...sorry..."
Panos heard her voice through the tune in his head and perked up.
Shay?
Her voice sounded a little rough.
It's Pan..Paul. Did i wake you?
Shay
Her heart dropped...it wasn't Mathias.
"Pan Paul? Yes...as a matter of fact you did wake me, but I am thankful for your call. I'd fallen asleep in the tub...who knows what might have happened had the ringing not woken me up."
'Yes...I might have drowned...and who would have cared?'
She was feeling sorry for herself...it was part of the grieving process. Though she hadn't given up on the idea that she and Mathias belonged together, or would be together again...it was likely her emotions would be spinning around like a dervish, until that time came.
"Paul? Are you okay?"
Now it fully registered who she was talking to...but he sounded...strange.
Panos Mehalitsenos
Well it's a good thing I did wake you then! I would have had to tear the eyes out of whoever found you nude in the tub!
the idea was funny to him and he giggled slightly. It occured to him that Shay possibly didnt find death and morbid things like floating dead bodies and his quest to keep her decent very funny.
I appologize, i did not mean to sound...possesively dirty. What i did mean was , you know, dignity. You know protect your dignity even if you were gone....Though that sounds silly now that i say it out loud but whatever. He laughed again.
And yes, I am allright. I'm actually sitting on some steps and they are killing my butt. Hold on a second.
There was a brief pause as he propped himself so that he was laying across the steps now with his head on a support rail.
Ok ok now i'm laying on the steps, but anyways....I wanted to appologize for the other day. I don't want you to think i was bluff. My new home has horrible reception for my phone. I totally should have switched to verizon. Do you have verizon? The do you hear me now commercials, i bet that man would be outside my house and he'd get reception. Ugh now i'm rambling and probably embarassing myself. I appologize again!
Shay
Shay laughed without thinking. He sounded drunk...that was why he sounded strange. She thought it was rather gallant of him taking the position of protecting her virtue...dignity. Though with that thought her smile faded...she'd rather have Mathias for that.
"It's really okay, Paul. No need to apologize though I fully accept. Things happen. I actually am a little remiss myself in that I did see you earlier, at the ball, and had intended on stopping by to say hello...but things sort of got...away from me."
She had to giggle a little at the phone commercial.
"No...I don't have the 'do you hear me now' service. But you're coming in loud and clear now."
Her head clearing a little more, something else he'd said just dawned on her.
"Why are you sitting on steps? Are you locked out? Have you lost your key...? Where are you?"
Though she didn't know Paul at all, the one time they'd talked she'd come to think she'd like to get to know him better. That aside, she was still concerned abou him...he was another human, after all. If he was in need, she'd do what she could for him.
Panos Mehalitsenos
Well I just came out of a club and I knew if i waited till i got home to call you it wouldn't work so i took myself a little seat out here! And by the looks that I'm getting from people passing me by...i'd say i'm a bit goofy looking!
A couple passed him by and he made a lewd gesture at them. The man flipped him off and pulled his woman closer as they walked away. He grinned at them.
You were at the ball?! Man you know i was looking for you! There was alot of people there though and so many elaborate costumes. Oh my god, dude i was there with my aunt too! Don't get no ideas missy, that lady may look young but i tell you! She aint, I didn't not call you and then go out with some other woman! That be rude. Ugh you must of saw how we matched. That was the most horrid get up, i tell you what. She of course had to be more ellaborate than me because she is older and my aunt and was once married to a king, even tho he turned it down so that really doesnt make him a king now does it? That's what I told her but she doesn't listen.
he paused again and there was muffles in the background.
Shut up yourself lady! Go back to bed!
There was a smashing sound of pottery and Panos leapt up and began to run laughing as he did so.
Shay
Shay tried to keep up with what he was saying, but wasn't having an easy time of it. Her head hurt, she was cold, and still wet, but she didn't like the thought of Paul wandering around the streets in his condition.
"Listen Paul...can I come pick you up...take you home...or go for coffee even? Are you at the House of Pain...or the Club Eternity?"
Ugh...the thought of coffee really didn't sound that great...but the thought of reading about them finding Paul's body lying in the street after being hit by a car...or worse yet...
"You weren't thinking about driving, were you?"
Shay had seen way too many deaths at the hands of drunks to ever think about mixing alcohol and cars.
Though she could also call him a cab, there was no way she'd be able to go back to sleep now...worrying if he got home safe. She might as well do something productive.
Panos Mehalitsenos
he slowed his running to a jog and then to a walk. The woman wasn't chasing him and he was a bit out of breath.
Man i'm getting outta shape! Me driving? No way! I know better than that right now! But hmmm I'll let you pick me up if we can stop and get a pizza! It can be togo and i know Hungry Tommies is open until late. They know clubbies be hungry afterwards! I could kill for some pizza ugh. And I was at Club E and i'm about a block away now. haha. Some lady was not happy i was on the steps to her building! She fricken threw a plant at me! Wait a minute, wait wait.
He sat down on the curb.
Ok now i'm put. Staying put on the corner by a stop sign.
Shay
"Ok Paul...give me ten to dress, and then I should be there...and Paul...please stay put."
She hung up without another word, and made a mad dash to her room. Pulling on a pair of jeans, and a hoodie over her partially damp body, she glanced in the mirror and winced. She took just a few more seconds to drag a brush through her hair, and try to erase the picture of fright that she'd seen, before stepping into her Uggs and heading out the door.
She was lucky she found the Club Eternity with little trouble, and as she drove slowly around the block, she also found Paul.
She pulled up along the curb in front of where he was sitting, and rolled down the window.
"Someone call a cab?"
She smiled.
Panos Mehalitsenos
Panos was humming to himself and swaying slightly when a vechile pulled up infront of him. He had a second of annoyance but when he raised his head he saw that it was Shay. He smiled and climbed up using the stop sign poll.
If all cab drivers are as wet and cuddly looking as you are now i'm sure less people would drive.
He gripped the doorr from the open window and opened it from the inside. Slowly he pulled it opened and teetered around it awkwardly. He dropped himself inside and pulled the door shut heavily. He rolled his head over his shoulder and smirked.
I thank you for this ride miss lady cab driver.
He pulled the visor down to check the mirror.
Whoa! I'm getting a five o clock shadow on my head! Is it then a shadow or a cloudy night? Hmm. He patted at his scalp.
Hungry Tommies time?
Shay
She wondered what he would look like with hair...nice, thick, slightly curly on the ends...
'No Shay...don't go there'. Instead she laughed at his antics, and his compliment.
"Let's just hope this slightly damp cabbie doesn't catch pneumonia."
It was good to have a break from her pain. Who knew how long it would last, but for now it was nice having a reason to smile.
"Hungry Tommies it is...but I'm afraid my car isn't equipped with Onstar...so I need to rely on you to get us there."
Panos Mehalitsenos
Easy cheesy ma'am. Go straight from here and turn right at the second light. It's a block down from the corner.
As they drove he made idle chatter about Hungry Tommies and how amazing their pizza was. He pointed out again the location of the turns as they made them and then finally they arrived in front of the pizza place. It was busy and the large glass windows showed that the small tables inside we almost filled. At this time of the night, everyone was sure to be drunk and you could see that some were by the way they laid next to their pizza boxes on the table.
He turned to look at Shay with one eyebrow raised.
Do you want to eat here? I can just run in and grab one to go?
Her damp hair had left little wet marks on her hoodie where it touched it. He didn't want her to get sick and fluid on the lungs was a no no so before she could answer he made up her mind for her.
Nah wait here. I will go get it! You are right, too late in the year for wet & chilly!
He pushed open the door and tried to saunter insde but what he really managed was a half drunk stumble. Once inside he realized he had not asked her what she wanted.
Rather than lose his place at the front of the line, he pulled out his phone and called her.
Shay
As she drove, she listened to him ramble, and had to think he was smart getting food inside him now. After drinking as much as he had, to do otherwise might make for a very nasty hangover tomorrow.
His concern for her was sweet, and appreciated, as she had no desire to get out of the car, or hassle with the group inside. So she just waited in the car and watched him. A small 'Oh' and a cringe escaped her as she saw him almost fall. Turning away, she looked up and down the street, using her mirrors to make sure she was parked ok, and that there weren't any unsavory characters roaming about.
The sound on her cell startled her and she jumped. When she heard him on the other end she laughed, partially because she found it comical that someone would call when only a matter of feet separated them, but also as a method of release. She was still a lot more tense than she realized.
"Anything is fine...really. I'm not that hungry...I'll just keep you company."
Shay was very picky about her pizza, though she rarely found anywhere that fixed it the way she liked...very thin, crisp crust, and little sauce. As for cheese and meats, she really did like just about anything. But she really wasn't hungry, so it was a moot point.
Not wanting to eat in the car, or sit in the car as he ate, she guessed she'd offer to drive him home...or back to her place. She hesitated a little at the last thought, but he was the one who'd been drinking...she was completely sober, and doubted he'd be able to take advantage of her, in his current condition anyway.
Panos Mehalitsenos
He was back in her car with the hot pizza in his hands. It burned a little at his palms but it also made him excited.
I cant wait i can't wait! he said sing song like
Ok, now i live a bit out on the outskirts of Nachton now. Out in the woods. My aunt had a few properties she was looking to get rid of and we made a good deal. Me getting the better end I think anyways. But it's a bit out there and I cant promise you i will be able to find it quickly since i have only been there like a day. Unless we could go somewhere else? I'd say my aunt's place is big but it's also creepy and acient as hell and who in their right minds would wanna hang out a dudes aunts?
By the way, i got pepperoni and cheese. I'm a simple man.
He opened the box a crack to show her.
Shay
The thought of driving god knew where, and possibly still not finding his place, wasn't appealing at all.
"Let's go back to my place...I've got a nice bottle of wine...uhm...I'll make a pot of coffee to go with the pizza."
She could really use a glass...no a bottle of wine, but she didn't think he needed anything else...so she'd suffer the coffee. The pizza did look remarkably good though...the smell no doubt enhancing that thought.
"Looks good...hang on to it!"
She said as she burned a little rubber leaving the curb.
The drive back was interesting. Paul was very animated, and that gave Shay something to focus on. She had thought him to be younger than her when she'd first met him, but as he talked she guessed him to be even younger than she'd imagined. She liked listening to the way he phrased things though...so hip...so...young male.
The pulled into the carport in a matter of minutes, and she waited at the door as she made sure he'd make it out of the car okay. She then went inside, and did a quick glance around to make sure nothing was amiss. She'd left rather hastily.
"Come on in...make yourself comfortable."
Panos Mehalitsenos
Panos followed Shay in and closed the door behind them. Her place looked comfortable and homey. It was nice.
He seated himself on the floor infront of the coffee table and placed the box on top of it. He began eating rather hungerly.
Your place is very nice Shay. He said between mouthfuls It suits you perfectly. It's comforting yet not old fashioned. Very inviting. Have some pizza.
He pat the floor next to him and opened the box wider. Unzipping his brown suede jacket he shrugged it off his shoulders and let it fall around him. Under neath he wore a tight cotton black shirt that fitted his muscular form nicely. He wasn't overly big because that could hinder ones movements but he was athletic. He looked down to his khakis for a spot to wipe his other hand, which now had some sauce and seaseme seeds on it.
First, do you have any napkins? Second, how in the world did you fall asleep in the tub?
Shay
Pulling a plate out of the cupboard, Shay saw Paul was already eating, and that the plate was unnecessary, so back into the cupboard it went.
She then busied herself fixing a pot of coffee, and as it brewed, she turned and leaned on the counter, looking into the livingroom. Her kitchen, dining room, and living room were all part of one great room, which made it nice in situations like this.
"Thank you...I like it."
She got up grabbed a handfull of napkins, walked over to sit on the floor next to him, and handed him one. She then found the smallest piece of pizza in the box.
"This is a lot better than I thought it would be."
She said, half covering her mouth, with her hand, as she spoke. Once she'd swallowed, she answered...with as little detail as she could work with.
"I guess I was tired?"
She laughed softly...just a tinge of sadness coloring the sound.
"It must have been all the excitement of the past few days...a costume party...then the ball..."
'...then having the love of my life tell me he's..what...of the undead? ...the living dead?...' A small look of pain crossed her eyes. What he was hardly mattered now. He had left her... she didn't even have the opportunity to argue the fact that their love had to mean something.
"You should understand...you're obviously a party animal...just like me."
Now she laughed true.
"Promise me you won't be taking any baths till after your buzz wears off."
She bumped her shoulder against his and grinned. He seemed a really nice kid. And he was substantially younger than she was...she thought he looked only 18...19?
"How old are you Paul?"
She asked the question, as casually as she could. She didn't want to hurt his manhood or pride having him think she thought him TOO young. She also just wanted to think about someone besides herself...so she was trying to focus the conversation back onto him.
Panos Mehalitsenos
He laughed when she bumped his shoulder. It made him sway a bit but not too much thankfully. His luck he would fall over.
She had asked his age. Now that was a good one.
Well, I may have to get a calculator to really figure it out, but i'd say twenty two. That sounded a good number if any. Old enough to drink at least
It's been a long time since i've drank so much. For awhile there i had stopped for a bit. I can't seem to remember why, it's been too long.
which was true. During the early nineties he had taken a good 8 years off from drinking. It wasn't until lately that he had resumed.
Maybe i will remember why tomorrow. Until then i'm afraid i feel like a lightweight. And I promise, no baths until the buzz is gone unless you babysit me.
He grinned and started on another piece. There was a look in her eyes when she had spoke of the ball that even drunk he did not miss.
You didn't look terribly happy about something when you talked about the ball. Did someone bother you there?
His eyes clouded over as he thought about how many vampires that had been there. Not just run of the mill ones either. Big names, old vampires, even a few acients. Hell he was an old vampire, but still there had been MANY Tacharan's there. Old and young alike. Too many young ones and it didnt matter the age.
I know it was a 'vampire' party, did anyone get rough with you? Anyone I will have to take care of? He flexed his right arm and laughed, he was serious but didn't want her to know just how much.
Shay
What an odd way to phrase it...'I'd say twenty two'...? In any case, not as young as she thought, so she decided she didn't need to 'mother' him. Though his next suggestion was so close to what she'd been thinking, she again found herself laughing.
"I was just thinking to myself that you are much too old to be baby sat. Though if you want to crash on the sofa tonight, that's really all right. And that way I'll have no reason to worry either way."
So, okay...it was easier for her to say she didn't need to worry, than to actually follow through.
The refocusing worked, if only for a while. Then they were back talking about her. She guessed it was fair. Getting to know someone...was a give and take situation.
"The ball was wonderful, and no...no one bothered me."
'I had Mathias at my side then...no one would have dared bother me.'
"Though I feel honored to know you would have been there to champion me, had I needed it."
And so she'd try to deflect his concern again. She couldn't talk to him about Mathias...it would have just been wrong. Not only would she feel odd, and disloyal discussing her relationship, but there was no way she'd betray Mathias talking about anything having to do with him directly. Even had she known Paul for a really long time, this kind of thing wasn't something Shay spoke of to others.
"I really guess it's all the excitement catching up with me. I've barely moved in, and have been spending all my days writing...and my nights galavanting around...it was bound to happen eventually. I think I just need a really good, long, nights sleep...or days sleep as is becoming habit."
Her internal clock was so out of whack, she hardly ever knew what time it was these days.
She finished the crust to the piece of pizza she was eating, wiped her hands, and got up to get the coffee.
"Coffee? How do you take it?"
Panos Mehalitsenos
With enough cream in it to not taste the coffee flavor! He said with a mouthful.
Sleeping during the day is prime. It's what I do. Everyone is out doing their bussiness, you don't know where they are. At night, you know they are home in bed sleeping. You can always find them. Plus you never heard of anyone getting a moontan now have you? I enjoy that, then sun you see...is not my friend.
He finished his last piece off and cleaned up their little area. He stretched his back out with an arch and slumped down further on the floor so he could rest his head on the couch's lip. He didn't know if he believed her about the ball, but he would let it slide for now.
What kind of book did you say you were writing? I know we talked some about it before. Maybe you will have to read some of it to me sometime. I suposse that even if it's a love story i can manage to feign some interest.
He was kidding her about the interest part. She HAD gone to The House of Pain of course. That would be interesting enough.
I still can't believe you made it out of the House of Pain intact. Not even a mark on you!
Shay
"Oh...I'm sorry...if you don't like coffee I've got some sodas and juice?"
It never occurred to her that anyone over the age of fifteen wouldn't like coffee...sometimes she almost lived on the stuff.
And there he went again, talking very strangely. The sun is not his friend?
"Is there some reason you find the need to be able to locate people in their beds?"
It was this whole 'vampire' thing...Shay was getting paranoid and seeing all kinds of things where there wasn't anything. She knew it was because she still didn't have a clear understanding. She had to talk to Mathias...
Mathias...
Again she brought herself back to Paul.
"I think you could handle it...there's romance...and I guess you could classify part of it as a love story...though there's also comedy, sex, drama, and a bit of a mystery...I'm writing..."
And a statement she'd said how many times before, without giving it any thought at all...now seemed unbelievable.
"...vampires...it's a story about vampires."
Panos Mehalitsenos
His ears perked up when she said vampires. He picked his head off the couch and looked at her.
Vampires? Oh reeeaally? You picked the perfect place to write it about it. I mean, this town is very old and all. Though then again why not translvania? And I like coffee, just with tons of cream. I like my cup of cream with a dash of coffee.
He laid his head back down and stared up at her ceiling. It tilted a little, a sign that he was still not sober enough to be thinking straight. It tugged at him from the corner of his mind. His little secret. He wanted to blurt it out, get past it and keep going. Vampire women were never friendly, always cold and calculating. Human's they still had the bit of...well humanity in them that made them likable to be around. He hardly knew Shay and that could be why he wanted to tell her so badly. Secrets didn't make you look so bad when told to a stranger.
Why vampires?
Shay
Pouring the coffee, she put the mugs on a tray and included the pot and her creamer as well. Though she usually took her's completely black, cream was a nice change on occasion, so she always had some.
"That's exactly why I chose Nachton...it is old, and it's on the eastern coast. When I was researching places to relocate to, I wanted to get as far away from where I grew up, as possible...without moving to Transylvania."
She smiled at him as she set the tray down, handed him his mug, and sat down again. Sipping her coffee, she savored it's aromatic flavor, and the way it soothed her chill, from the inside out.
"I've got a lot of family though, on the west coast still, and didn't want to be too far. Not to mention...I don't speak Romanian..."
The vampire question was one she'd fielded many times from friends and family, before she'd actually moved away. But that was when it was just a question...impersonal...involving a fantasy.
Now that it was real...and the mere word conjured up the face of someone she loved, she couldn't just throw out that pat answer any longer... Or maybe that was all she could answer with.
"I don't have any profound reason for writing about vampires...other than, like so many girls, I grew up thinking they were romantic."
And though she got the words out without a hitch, she couldn't stop the bitterness from the laugh that followed.
Panos Mehalitsenos
He stirred until the coffee was a very light carmel color. He took a sip as she laughed and he looked out the corner of his eye at her.
Ouch, that laugh sounds a little...nasty. I think theres something more to that last statement then you let on.
The warmth of the coffee had a somewhat sobering effect. He looked back at her to say more but stopped. His brow furrowed together and one went up as he tilted his head. There was a faint mark on her neck. It was fading fast but Panos had given those marks before and could recognize them easily. He went back to his coffee and drank again. Perhaps it was a simple hickey.
Are you sure no one hurt you the other night Shay? At least anyone pretending to be a vampire so they could win a mention in your book? You never know about people these days. You are new to town and in Nachton there's certain kinds of people who will take advantage of that. I happen to know a few of them.
He was watching the steam rise from the mug and he got that feeling again, that she wasn't telling the full truths. But then again, neither was he. Mine is different he thought to himself. She'd run for the hills and never speak to me again if I told her.
At what loss would that be to you Pauly boy? The voice taunted him. A stranger is a stranger and a secret to a stranger lifts your burden.
The voice in my head must be drunk too.
Shay
"Wow, either I'm a lot more transparent than I ever realized, or you are one amazingly astute guy, for being so drunk...and so young."
Though she was taken aback by his comment, she still didn't feel like elaborating. Maybe, one day...if she was able to pursue their friendship, and get to know him better...maybe then she could share more intimate parts of her life...but not now.
And his next question seemed to drive a stake into her heart...was that more irony?
"No...really Paul. The evening didn't end as well as I'd hoped...but I wasn't attacked or anything...the other night."
And that wasn't a lie...she'd been bit before that...her hand unconsciously reaching up to rub the spot
"Truly...everyone I met the night of the ball was very friendly...couldn't have been more polite."
She regarded him with a look of utter questioning.
"Though you are really doing wonders for my curiosity. Who do you hang out with that might find a reason to take advantage of me? It bothers me to think you could be as easily accosted."
Feeling like the events past were finally taking their toll, Shay laid down on her side on the floor, and propped her head on her hand, to see Paul, as he talked.
Panos Mehalitsenos
The coffee was mellowing him out more than he expected and he felt the drowsy effects of the liquor and warmth of the coffee kick in. He stood and cracked his neck and then laid on her couch. He left his feet hanging off the edge so that his shoes didn't dirty her furniture. There were a few things he was anal about and that was one of them. He had tried to preserve many things from his past and failed terribly.
Ok I will take your word for it, but if you ever need help with anything or from anyone, let me know. I know we haven't known each other long but I like you. You are a..how do you say it? Damn the word is on the tip of my tounge! How about this, you are a trustworthy person. Without even knowning me you have helped me out and kept me company. This being the second time. I admire that and I strive to be more like that myself. Whatever that word may be.
He looked from the ceiling back to her face and the room swam again. He laughed.
Ok, I thought i was totally more sober than this. Your coffee had me fooled miss Shay. I have yet to be accosted myself but it may not be much longer before someone tries. I know people, not very good people and i use the word people loosely because 'people' aren't so wicked. My aunt's one of these people. They wouldn't taken advantage of you perse, but new people like you. He thought for a moment.
It's kinda like the mob ya know? They arent nice people.
Mathias
His goal was clear, his focus precise...then why did MAthias feel so nervous? It couldn't be that he was about to knock on the door of the woman he loved,a woman he had recently abandoned and told that they couldn't be. Nah,couldn't be that.
He approached her door and stopped. Did he hear...voices? Mathias concentrated and felt the sensory input increase. He definitely heard two voices - Shay...and a man?? His heart raced, could she have gotten over him so quickly? No..he did not no what was going on but Mathias would not be deterred.
He stepped up to the door and knocked.
Shay
“Aww…that’s a really nice thing to say. But you’re easy to talk to, Paul…and you make me smile…remind me that I’m not so old either, and can still have fun.”
She almost said she was a pretty good judge of character, but that was still in question. It wasn’t a good feeling, doubting herself…though did she really? She still loved Mathias. Love wasn’t something she just turned off and on. If he’d told her he was an atheist, she’d still love him, though she might not agree with his beliefs. If he had said he was a crack addict, she would still love him, but help him seek treatment. Was being a vampire so different…?
Paul…she smiled at him, and hoped she hadn’t just been staring into space like an idiot. She was glad he decided to sleep over. She really would have worried if he’d gone home in the condition he was in.
Standing up, she went into her office and grabbed the comforter, and brought it out to him with a down pillow from the hall closet. She handed them to him, and sat on the couch at his feet, to remove his shoes.
“Well of course I know there are bad people in the world…I was a cop…I’ve seen a lot of ugliness in the world. One reason I decided to leave the force…I thought it didn’t bother me, but I was wrong. I…”
Before she could finish her sentence, there was a knock at the door. She gave him a slight shrug, to let him know she had no clue who it could be, and stood up. But as she walked to the door she realized it couldn’t be anyone else…and if he was here now, he must have changed his mind? Her heart and mind sure hoped so anyway.
Flipping on the porch light, she saw him through the peep hole, and opened the door.
“Hi…”
She said in a tiny voice…suddenly afraid to say anything else….except…
“Do you want to come in?”
Panos Mehalitsenos
Panos accepted the cozy looking comforter with joy. He was surprised but happy when Shay sat at his feet and began to untie his shoes for him. He was glad he stayed too. Besides Aunt Chrys who did he really have? Birseis! He laughed at himself for thinking of the dog as a friend. Where was the dog anyways? She hadn't come out from underneath the booth at Club E. Maybe she was waiting for him there.
Well she would have to wait a little longer. Sassy bag of fleas.
As Shay removed one of his shoes they both heard a knock. He watched her shrug and could tell she was just as surprized as he to hear a knock on the door this late. Maybe they had been to loud with their talking and laughing.
As Shay stepped away to get the door Panos moved the comforter aside and took his shirt off. He normally slept naked but as a guest at another persons house he felt that would be a bit bold. He tossed the shirt on the floor next to the couch and finished taking off his other shoe.
Mathias
"I've been a fool Shay - and I am sorry. Can we talk please? There is so much I want to share,so much I nee-" Looking past Shay he noticed the man on couch. No shirt and a comforter around him...
His voice was even as he did not move, but looked her in the eyes.
"Did I come at a bad time Shay?"
Shay
Hearing he had changed his mind, Shay's heart lept. He wanted to talk...she wanted to talk...
Though when he saw Paul, she could have sworn she felt him tense up.
"Bad time? No, of course not.
Mathias this is Paul...
Paul, this is my...this is Mathias."
She pulled Mathias into the room further, and held on to the cuff of his jacket.
"Paul is my friend...but tonight he partied a little too much, and I didn't want him driving, or wandering around town, so I invited him to stay over."
She smiled at Paul, hoping she hadn't made him sound like a child, or charity case...because she felt he was neither. She felt he was a friend she was...befriending.
Looking up at Mathias, her fingers still gripping his cuff, she smiled at him as well, and her eyes begged him to believe what she said. If he were to question her now, doubt her, she didn't think she could withstand it.
"We can go into the other room and talk..."
It was only a little awkward, but Shay saw no reason it needed to remain such. Paul could stay...Mathias could stay...Shay and Mathias could talk...
Panos Mehalitsenos
Panos turned his head to greet Shay's friend with a smile and froze. He narrowed his eyes slightly. Shay seemed nervous around him, could he be the reason for the pained look in her eyes? He stood upright and walked towards Mathias and extended his hand. He locked eyes with the man and stared directly into them, unblinking.
Nice to meet you Mathias. I'm Paul.
Mathias
That's cute - Paul was trying to stare him down. Rather difficult to do that to someone who has seen a thousand battles, but Mathias gave him credit for trying. Returning Paul's look he smiled. "Hello..Paul. You must be the one Shay mentioned. Thank you for standing her up - I appreciated the extra time with her." Be nice he admonished himself. This is Shay's home and you should be respectful.
"Nice to meet you Paul. If you will excuse me, I need to talk to Shay in private." He grasped Shay's hand and moved towards the bedroom.
Panos Mehalitsenos
Panos grabbed Shays free wrist to stop her.
I've seen what that extra time has gotten you, a little more than it should of. Shay wait a minute. Don't go off with him just yet.
He turned his gaze to hers and tried to warn her with his eyes.
(edit cuz i forget words!)
Shay
Shay just blinked.
Paul had quite cordially gotten up to greet Mathias, and the next thing she knew she was being pulled into the bedroom. Then Panos was grabbing her other hand...WTF? She pulled both her hands out of their grasps, and stopped. She looked at Mathias first, seriously, though not in anger.
"Please...go ahead...I'll be right there."
And she shooed Mathias towards her bedroom, as she turned back to Paul.
"I...will be fine...trust me...I know what I'm doing..."
She wouldn't apologize for Mathias. He acted the way he'd acted for his own reasons; however, Paul was still a guest in her house, and she had no reason to change the way she felt about him, or was treating him.
"Please, Paul...stay? I can cook you breakfast in the morning, and we can talk some more before you go home...please?"
Paul was a big boy, and would do what he wanted...she really did hope he stayed though. Smiling at him, she turned and followed Mathias into the bedroom.
Panos Mehalitsenos
I will be just outside the door if you need me.
Panos watched the door close behind Shay and he felt panic rise in his chest. She had let him in willingly, yet there was something not right between the two of them. It worried him.
'If that fucker hurts her he is going to see all sorts of rage unleashed. Meegan's apartment will look like a dollhouse compaired to what will happen if he so much lays a tooth on her.'
Panos paced in front of the couch and tried to be ready if he even heard a slight voice raise.
Mathias
Mathias gave Paul his very best #43 Stare O' Doom. The one that caused armies to flee and small children to make puddles.
"You overstep your bounds, boy." The words came out as more of a growl than he realized. Something about 'Paul' set him on edge, much like...Cyrus...
"This is your home Shay, and I will respect your wishes." His gaze didn't leave Paul as he said those words nor did it break when he headed to the back bedroom. Breathing to calm himself down,he concentrated and extended his senses, allowing his hearing to pick up the conversation. He would be damned if some lovesick pup interfered with what he had to say to Shay!
Shay
"Thank you..."
Shay uttered as she closed the door, and walked over to sit on the edge of the bed...she really was pretty exhausted by now, but knew she had to retain her senses.
"I'm sure what you saw when you got here appeared strange...in all actuality, it was a very strange evening...but, in all fairness...you started this whole thing."
She had to get Mathias' mind back on them, and off the poor boy in the other room.
"You said you wanted to talk...I'm glad...I've got things to say as well...and MANY questions...but before you start...I'm very glad you came back."
She loved this man, and hoped against all rational thought, that between the two of them they could find a way to make it work between them.
She smiled at him, and patted the bed, as she moved more to the center, to sit cross legged.
Mathias
He sat down where Shay indicated. He wanted to reach out and touch, hold her and tell her how sorry he was. But he knew that was not the best path for them. They needed to talk and he needed to listen as well.
He reached out to hold Shay's hand, but thought better of it. "Thank you for letting me come in. Truth be told I wasn't sure if you would, considering our last words. But I knew I had to try and talk to you,no matter" He took a deep breath, trying to find the words and only found raw emotion. "I'm so sorry Shay. I was wrong, I was foolish and I was selfish. I turned my back on the woman I love because I was scared. I love you Shay, I have always loved and I will always love you." He buried his face in his hands, trying not to lose it.
Panos Mehalitsenos
He had called him boy! Who did he think he was talking to?! Panos was over eleven thousand years old and this man was going to call him boy?
Disgusted sat on the couch and immediatly stood up again. He had too much fury inside him to sit still. What could he do but wait? Did Shay know about this man? Did she know and was trying to protect him from it? He laughed inwardly at that thought, if she only knew.
[You were about to tell her weren't you.] Her voice cut in matter of factly.
[Aunt Chrys! Do you listen to everything that happens to me?]
[I can not hear what others say to you darling. Actually you are the one disturbing me. What has got you so frantic?]
[Disturbing you?]
[Yes, thats how this works Panos. You bonded to me boy, when you need help I must answer.]
[DO NOT CALL ME BOY!] His inner voice roared to her.
[Ah, a touch moody. I am not needed then.]
Thankfully she dissapeared from within his head again. He didn't need her, she'd only want to be fed if he did call upon her to help. Besides he was a man and didn't need help from family when it came to protecting someone.
Panos sat in front of the coffee table and crossed his legs. Closing his eyes he tapped into his senses and waited for anything to go wrong. If Shay needed him, she could find him right here and ready.
Shay
So much for her staunch reserve. She reached for him, and pulled him towards her, cradling his head and shoulders in her arms.
In low, soft words, Shay tried to comfort him.
"Mathias...please...our love is nothing we need doubt, or worry over. I know you love me, and I love you...more than the air I breath. I've never stopped loving you, and I am pretty sure that began the night at the club."
Her hand was rubbing his hair, her nails threading through the little curls along the back of his neck.
She was just so glad he'd come back to her...was here with her now...she felt she was strong enough to conquer anything, with him by her side.
"But you need to tell me...so many things..."
She tilted his head up a little, so she could smile and look in his eyes.
"Can you love me, and not want to make me...like you?"
It might have been a strange question to start with...but her mind was still less than organized by all the information she'd had to grasp.
Mathias
He never doubted her,nor their love but her words were a comfort still - but not as much as her touch. Shay held him and Mathias just let himself go. I'm tired of running and this is where I belong he thought to himself
"Yes...moreso,because I love you I would never want this....curse..upon you my love."
He closed his eyes and felt Shay's warmth envelope him. He would answer her questions, whatever it took - he would do whatever it took.
Shay
A curse? Shay couldn't argue the point with Mathias...he'd lived this way for hundreds of years. But...
"Do you know though...if you weren't like you are...we would have never met. And while we wouldn't have hurt each other today, we wouldn't be here now either. I know that's selfish of me...but I'm sorry...all I know is, whether i understand this...condition...or not...it has brought you to me, and no matter what we have to deal with to make this work, at least we have the opportunity."
And Shay believed that with all her being.
But more questions...
"Are the things they write about...vampires...true? Must you drink blood to survive...are you forbidden from sunlight... I mean I already know somethings are just falacies...garlic obviously doesnt bother you, there was tons of it in the Chinese food we ate. And if Christian crosses were your enemy, I doubt you would have gone into religious research...is that really what you do?"
Mathias
She was right of course, and Annabelle as much said it. "Then I should be more appreciative of this condition, for right here, and right now, with you is where I belong." He reached up and softly caressed her cheek - even in the short time he was away Mathias had missed the feel of her flesh.
"Like anything else, there is reality mixed with the mythology." He grew serious for a moment. "What I am sharing with is not to be taken lightly nor should it be used in your book Shay. There are vampires far older than I am and they take a dim view to our secrets being revealed or mortals sharing them with the outside world." Shifting,he sat up to face Shay. "We require blood, but it does not have to be human, nor does it have to be from 'fresh' as it were.. Sunlight will kill me,though with my age it would slightly longer than someone not as old. Garlic, silver, religious artifacts have no effect - though I have heard tales of some who had psychological limitations that made them think it did affect them."
"I do,in fact, research ancient religions - specifically early christian sects. I have sought redemption for my sins,to seek a cure for this. As you point out though - perhaps the purpose was for me to be here,to be with you. It is not for me to questions God's plan I suppose" He let a chuckle at that. "However,it is not the only thing I do for a living." Mathias slid off the bed and stood facing Shay. While confession was necessary he did not want to risk her pulling away again.
"Certain of my abilities, things due to my condition have proven useful to certain groups. Those groups,in turn have chosen to financially compensate me for activities on their behalf. Understand me - I have NEVER taken a contract on an innocent soul. But if the criminal element wishes to prey upon itself,I see no sin in profiting or aiding that demise." True enough,he had always been meticulous in his research. And Ellis had never brought him a contract that did not fit those parameters.
Mathias searched his love's face, looking for anything positive.
Shay
As she listened, she tried to hear everything...not only his words, but his emotions, his intentions, the implications knowing his words brought to her. It was true...vampires really did exist...incredulous as she might have been once...she now believed everything he said without question.
Though maybe it was so easy for her because somewhere within her she really had known all along. She just never expected to actually meet, much less fall in love with, one.
She was relieved beyond words to hear Mathias did not need fresh, human blood to live. Yet the issue of his biting her then took on different meaning...she just wasn't sure what that meaning was yet. The fact that sunlight was poison, frightened Shay...it made him too vulnerable, in her eyes. The sunlight was all around them, for such a large part of their lives...
It was good to hear that so much of what he'd told her had been true...she could understand him withholding so many things, but it helped her believe everything else, when she knew the things he didn't need to lie about, he hadn't. And that he had made a career, wherein he had sought redemption, only served to support the reason why she loved him.
When he pulled away and then got off the bed...Shay's eyes were on him, full, once again, of fear. Though was there anything more he could tell her, that had the potential to frighten her more than she had already been?
"You're a mercenary...a vigilante of sorts?"
Though Shay had been on the police force, and morally understood the reason for not allowing just anyone to take the law into their own hands...she had also seen first hand the way their judicial system often didn't work the way it should. Victims weren't always avenged...justice wasn't always accomplished...all too often, because of their human frailties, and imperfections, those responsible for seeing that the 'bad guys' were taken care of, just weren't able to do so.
She would need to think on that more, but initially she didn't find his final revelation to be anything she couldn't live with.
But there were more questions...
She went to him this time...she climbed off the bed, walked over and moved her arms around his waist, pulling him close and pressing her cheek to his chest. She listened...did she hear a heart beat...yes she did...but her own was beating so loudly she just wasn't sure if she heard his or not. She looked up at him.
"I love you...Mathias...Alexei...whatever you are called, and whether I, myself, will be damned to hell, I love you. I couldn't not love you any more than I could not breathe. What you do doesn't thrill me, but not necessarily because of its moral implications...but because it puts you in danger...like the sun. I know you aren't invincible, but to know you could so easily perish if caught outside...scares me like little else could.
I would never...NEVER betray you...nor would I ever include specifics about you or your...people...that would lead them here...to you...in anything I wrote. In fact, for now...my book is something I need to revisit. I need time to digest ALL of this before I even consider returning there."
She had to sit down...or fall down...but one or the other was going to need to happen. She took his hand and led him back to the bed.
"Please sit...and tell me about what your people may do to me, now that I know..."
Mathias
He moved back the bed, sitting against the backboard and wrapping his arms around Shay. "I am a mercenary occaisonally. I have had the luxury of selecting my jobs and targets. Others are not so...discriminating." That's putting it mildly - the other Mercs didn't necessarily have his compunctions.
"A wise man once told me "All death is certain death". Although my nature is to live forever I know I will not,and I know someday you will not be with me. As much as that troubles me I have faith we will see one another again. I worry about you every moment I am not be your side." He glanced towards the door where Paul was."And I know you will neve rbetray me,or my people - we will figure out a way to write your book I promise."
"As to what others will do..that's hard to say. Just knowing doesn't mark you for death. there isn't a way to just 'see' if someone knows about us. However if it were to slip or somehow be known there might be those who saw you as a threat." Mathias thought for a moment, there was one way to protect Shay besides turning her..
He turned Shay around to face him, looking her directly in the eyes. "There is a way to 'protect' you having knowledge of us. But it would require a serious commitment from us both, and for you to meet some other vampires who are less noble than I." He had no worries about the commitment required,Shay was everything he could ask for. But he needed her to be sure and meeting Ellis...well that could be an experience in itself.
Shay
When she was in his arms like this, she felt nothing could harm either of them. She knew it was a foolish, girlish fantasy...to feel that way...but it was a dream she didn't want to give up on, at the moment.
She also didn't want to talk about death. Being with Mathias would probably now always remind her that death was around, if she let it. That was something she would need to work on...
His concern for her was appreciated, and she didn't miss the look he'd given the door, as she had her head tilted back, and was watching him as he spoke. Though she really needed him to know she trusted Paul, and really believed he would be much more apt to protect her, then harm her.
And the book. Sure the book was a large part of her life...until Mathias it had been her life...but that wasn't the case now. Her heart swelled at his admission.
"A way? What way..."
She reached up and put a finger to his chin, turning his face so he was looking at her.
"You know I'm committed to you...right? When you came back tonight, I knew you were committed to me...and I don't think I have any fear of meeting more...vampires. Not if you're with me.."
Sure Shay wanted to protect herself...she didn't want to die. But she also didn't want to be a weakness for Mathias, and if he was worrying about her, it could distract him from protecting himself. A small shudder passed through her at that thought.
"So...I'm ready."
Mathias
"There is a process known as creating a familiar. It would require me to feed from you three times in as many nights. Thereafter - a 'bond' would be created between us. Other vampires tend to be very careful about whom they feed from. If you are known as familiar chances are you would be left alone. In addition, you would have the protection of my clan so long as you didn't betray them or reveal our existence."
He knew Shay wouldn't,but the words had to be said. And he doubted any bond created could be as strong as what they felt. "That said...you would be more...'compliant' to my requests, especially regarding feeding. And this is a one way trip - you come in,you do not walk away." He looked into her eyes, trying to show the commitment was just as deep on his side of the coin. "I will be responsible for your actions and I will share your punishment if something occurs."
"Before any of this can happen, however,I need to contact the leader of my clan and seek permission. She will want to meet you." That part worried him. As much as he owed Ellis and felt loyal to her,she still..set him on edge occaisonally. She could be unpredictable.
"I can call her now if you - see when she wishes to meet."
Shay
Her eyes and mind were totally focused on Mathias, as he explained the procedure.
She tried to be objective...she tried to look at the process in a very clinical manner, and she tried not to think about the word...'feeding'. For some reason the calm, safe, wonderful arms around her, began to feel slightly constricting, and she eased herself out of those arms, and moved off the bed. Her arms wrapped around herself, and she stared at the floor...at a non-existent spot several feet in front of her.
She looked back to Mathias, and tried to disguise her fears, but doubted she succeeded.
"This..." She cleared her throat.
"This is a lot to think about. I know I probably shouldn't worry. I do trust you, and I know you wouldn't hurt me...although this feeding? It's like what you did the other night...when we were making love? That didn't hurt...this would be like that?"
The pain was a concern. Shay didn't tolerate pain well, and the thought of being subjected to it three times in a row, was more than distasteful. But there was another concern.
"And the 'bonding'...that would make me more 'compliant'..."
She wanted to just tell him 'YES'. She knew she had to, for them to be together. But the terror that ran through her veins was beyond anything she'd yet to experience.
"Mathias...would I still be me? I mean...if I didn't want to do something...could you make me?"
The thought of losing control was scarier than the thought of pain, only from the standpoint that the pain would end.
Mathias
He understood when Shay left his arms. This WAS a lot to take in and she hadn't had time to digest it. " It would be exactly like that, perhaps even gentler - I may have been rougher than I normally am. To...drink..should be a pleasurable process for both parties involved." Feeding and drinking were such a crude way to describe the act - honest and direct but perhaps it made Shay uncomfortable.
"I showed a poor choice of words love. the bond does not make you more 'compliant' only that the idea of us...sharing blood..is less frightening." That seemed to be a better way to explain things and the truth. "And even if I could, I would never even consider that - your independence is something I love."
Mathias crossed the room, gently lifting Shay's face to his. "The choice is your love, in all things it is always yours. This is not the only way for us to be together and it will not change anything between us."
Shay
The different words, that said the same thing, did offer a slight comfort. But it wasn't until he told her that he wouldn't be making her his 'slave', that she allowed herself to relax, at all.
When he came to her, and gave her options, was when she made her decision. Trust... It all boiled down to whether or not she trusted what he'd told her. And she did, without question...she just knew. He had never lied to her yet - she didn't consider his evading the truth to be the same - he had been protecting them both then, just as he was trying to now.
"Call her." She said, after she hugged him.
"Call her now...I'd like to just do this...I don't want to think about it, or worry over it any more than I must. I want to do this, but I want to do it as soon as possible."
Looking directly into his eyes, she repeated the request. She wanted him to see that she meant every word. She also wanted him to see that she had agreed because she loved him, and was agreeing that for both their sakes, it was the best path to take.
Mathias
Call her
Those two words meant almost as much to Mathias as "I love you". It showed her trust in him and her faith in their relationship. He nodded slowly, his eyes never moving from hers. Mathias kissed her gently and whispered "Thank you"
Pulling out his cell phone he dialed Ellis' number - he hoped she was availible.
Ellis Duban
Ellis was standing with her boot placed firmly in the throat of someone very annoying. This would be considered her good deed for the day, she decided. The neck belonged to a regular, run of the mill thug who was harassing a young lady. Her reasons for playing savior were her own, but admittedly she was enjoying pressing down slowly on his neck, watching him choke to death.
She knelt down, applying even more pressure and gave him a sweet smile. Just then her cell phone rang. She held up a finger and stood, releasing some of the pressure on the gentleman's neck, but he was still unable to move. Ellis reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone.
'Hello hello!' She sang in a happy voice.
Mathias
She was in a good mood - I wonder what the body count is. Mathias thought to himself, hearing Ellis' voice. Mindful of Paul in the next room he chose his next words carefully.
"There is someone I'd like you to meet Ellis - I am interested in becoming very..familiar..with her and it is only right she should meet the family." Gods that was as subtle as a broadsword - hopefully it did the trick.
"Was thinking tomorrow night - we have company right now. How's that for you?" He looked at Shay, hoping it was soon enough for her - they needed to be rid of Paul.
Shay
While Mathias put in the call, Shay crawled back up on the bed. She pulled her legs up so just her heels were resting on the edge of the mattress, and her toes were hanging over. She wrapped her arms around her shins, and tucked her chin into the small space between her knees. She watched him thusly, and listened as he made an appointment...that would seal her fate.
Tomorrow seemed like eons, but she had to assume his boss was quite the busy woman. She hoped the woman had an opening for them then.
Glancing at the bedroom door, Shay knew she had to go check on Paul. She didn't know if he was still sitting out there on the sofa waiting for her, or if he'd gone to sleep. In either case, she wanted to make sure he was comfortable.
Ellis Duban
The man beneath her struggled to move, she leaned back on his throat again, threatening to turn his adams apple into pie. 'Mathias...have we been naughty?' She asked with a coy smile. The man's face beneath her started to turn a lovely shade of blue.
'Have you told her everything, darling? Because if you did and she ends up not willing...well,' she chuckled, 'she's lunch.' The man started to grab at her leg, trying to dig his nails into her skin. With a swift turn of her foot, she heard an audible snap. She sighed unhappily, what a waste.
'Just so you and I are clear because once we set this little happy meeting, there's no turning back.'
Mathias
Mathias nodded, despite the rest of the conversation was being conducted on the phone. "You know me better than that Ellis - have I ever disappointed you?"
He walked over to where Shay was and sat down. Mathias reached over and ran his hands along her back - as much to reassure himself as it was Shay. This was the right course for them...but it was still a big step. "Yes,Ellis - she is aware of the commitment. We both are." Both of them - they were in this together, for good or ill. The bond between them was as deep as any mortal marriage.
" House of Pain - 8 o'clock?"
Ellis Duban
"You know me better than that Ellis - have I ever disappointed you?"
'I've given you one change to disappoint me, Mathias, and you did not. At best that only puts you as close as the tip of my sword. But let's not mince words.' She took her foot off of the now dead man and gave a glance in the direction of the poor damsel in distress. 'House of Pain is fine, I will see you then.'
As she looked over at the crying woman, the poor dear ran up to Ellis and hugged her, thanking her for saving her life. Ellis ran her long fingers through the woman's soft brown hair, pulling it to the side, exposing her neck. The woman wouldn't shut up for christ sakes and kept thanking her. Ellis smiled slowly.
If she only knew she was better off with the thug. Ellis ran her tongue over her fang and quietly closed her cell phone.
((Ellis out))
Mathias
He closed his phone and took a deep breath. There is no turning back now he thought to himself. Not that we would have, but this brings it home.
Moving over to the bed,he sat down beside Shay and draped an arm over her. "The die is cast love - tomorrow night at 8 we meet Ellis. " He scooted over some more and kissed the top of her head. "Everything is going to be ok love, I promise you. You mean everything to me Shay - I love you, heart and soul." Though true, the words rang hollow - how could they even come close to describing what he felt for Shay? Their bond went deeper than man and woman or lovers - truly he knew they were destined to be together. He said no more, content to let Shay talk when and if she felt like it.
Shay
Her mind was working a mile a second, so many things running through it, so many feelings. But the strongest, most prevelant thing was love. The one they shared, so very new, yet so very strong already.
When he sat down on the bed and put his arm around her, she turned into him, and rested her head against his neck. Her arms encircled his waist, as far as they would go, and she reran the conversation in her head.
"Mathias, my love, I am ready. In the grand scheme of things, it seems a small price to pay. I know you will do your best to help me through it all...and it's only your boss, right? Why wouldn't she like me...approve of me...I'm a likable girl..."
She was trying, with her all, to cast a brighter light on things. She had the man of her dreams...literally... They were crazy in love with each other... And all she had to do was meet his boss, and donate some blood for the cause.
"I'm glad it's at the House of Pain too...seems appropriate, doesn't it?"
After a few seconds of quiet, Shay turned her head, and kissed his neck...and then, for no real apparent reason, she nipped his neck, and then ran her tongue around the faint red mark.
"Sorry...I guess I got a little caught up in the moment."
Mathias
The feeling of her teeth on his neck was indescribable. Though it didn't have the same effect his bite did, it was still highly erotic.
"Curious are we? Good..I want you to understand." His hands ran through her hair and he leaned down to hiss her. Their lips met and Mathias' hand pressed her gently back tot he matress. His other hand slid inside her jeans, pleased to discover no other material barring his way.
Extending his fangs,Mathias barely touched her neck. His finger slid inside her every time his teeth brushed flesh. He wanted her to associate the bite with pleasure - it would make things easier.
He continued the teasing, until he felt Shay was ready. " I won't take you unless you want me too. You do want me too, don't you Shay?" He whispered, fangs brushing her neck again.
Shay
She had started this, and yet she really had wanted to check on Paul first.
But in spite of her good intentions, all thoughts of Paul disappeared when she felt Mathias tug on the zipper to her jeans. She moved his hand out of the way, to push her jeans open, and then moved her hand to the back of his neck. She felt his fingers enter her, at the same time she felt the slight tingly pricks against her neck, and she grabbed his hair when he started to tease her.
"Yes, Mathias...of course I want you...I always want you."
Yet when she answered his question, she had forgotten the bite, and was referring to his fingers, dancing between her legs. He always made her feel as if she was on fire, and he always was able to quench that fire...though the time in between was phenomenal.
Panos Mehalitsenos
Panos waited as the time passed on. Their voice could be heard but they were muffled. He waited and waited but still nothing. Finally he heard a change. Mathias's voice got louder but not by much.
He raised one his eyebrows and tilted his head slighty. (How his aunt would be proud)
They were quiet again in the room.
Mathias
She had to say the words before he would. He nipped at her neck as his fingers teased her. "I have to hear you say it - I have to know you want me to drink from you.." His voice was rough from desire and need.
Shay
'Drink'?
"Please, Mathias...do it...yes...bite me...drink...I give myself to you...totally."
She whimpered.
"Make me yours."
Mathias
"Make me yours."
Mathias nodded, this was what he needed to hear. He softly kissed her neck, down to the hollow of her throat before lifting her hoodie and continuing down. He paused to tease her nipples and areola with tongue and teeth before moving further south. His fingers inside her paused as Mathias removed her jeans, tossing then to the side.
From between her legs Mathias look upward at Shay, his eyes full of devotion and admiration. What Shay was doing meant so much to him - willingly, even desiring him to take her. "I love you Shay"
was all he could say.
His thumb began to play with her clit as Mathias kissed along the inside of her thigh, sensing, feeling the blood flowing through her. With a growl he extended his fangs and sank them into her thigh, feeling the arterial blood flow into his mouth. He kept playing with her clit however, tasting Shay's pleasure as he drank.
Mathias was careful to not drink too much, he could easily get lost in the shared pleasure. Carefully withdrawing, he cleaned what little blood there was with soft gentle kisses.
Shay
Her clothes had become an unwanted barrier, keeping her from his touch, so she gladly helped him rid them from her body.
Somewhere in the back of her mind, she kept telling herself that what was coming wouldn't hurt. It wasn't difficult to convince her now...not with the way he was currently making her feel. But she focused her senses on his hand, and tried to ignore his lips...though they too, were making her feel like liquid.
Anticipating his bite to her neck, Shay turned her head away from him, and presented herself. But he moved away...down to her breasts...and for mere seconds she wondered if he'd changed his mind. Then she didn't care. Between his lips, and tongue and fingers, she found herself teetering once again.
His proclamation of love was heard and recognized, but she was unable to put together anything coherent as a response.
"Um hm!" She squeaked out, and then followed up with more tiny squeaks of pleasure.
Just when she felt it...the edge of the mountain she'd climbed...the mountain Mathias had pushed her up...just when she knew she was seconds from rushing over that edge, she felt the sting...and the squeaks became a high pitched squeal that she quickly muffled into a series of groans. And much, much too soon, it was over, and she lay panting, and heaving, reveling in what she'd just experienced.
Her body felt like jello, a bit shaky, and without much substance, and as each minute passed she began to grow cold.
"Mathias, my love, please return to me."
She was able to hold her hands out to him for a few seconds, and smile at him, until her arms fell back to the bed, and she felt she'd never move again. But she wanted to feel his arms. She needed his strength, his reassurance.
After several more silent minutes passed, she spoke again.
"Will it always be like that for me...so...incredibly intense? And you...you've not...I want that for you too."
It was quite unusual for Shay not to be able to find words...and she was not the shy, demure type, but for some reason she was feeling quite shy, at the moment. It was almost like he had taken her virginity again.
Mathias
He climbed up into the bed, pulling the covers over Shay and himself. Mathias brushed the sweat streaked hairs out of her face, before smiling softly and kissing Shay.
"Yes love, I will make sure every time will be that pleasurable." He moved her hand downwards so that she might feel the effect feeding had on him. "It was equally intense for me - and I wouldn't have it any other way,"
As much as he desired Shay right now,he knew she needed to recover her strength. "Later love, there is plenty of time for that after you rest. And if I am asleep when you wake - drink some Gatorade or sport drink. It will help you recover."
He noticed the change in Shay's demeanor. They had both just shared a very intense experience, one that would only grow when he drank from her again. In many ways they were both like first time lovers and Mathias felt closer to Shay - if such a thing were possible.
He stripped off his clothing and snuggled back under the covers next to Shay. He wrapped his arms around her, letting the warmth of his body flow over her. Right here,Right now he heard Annabelle say
Yes - Mathias thought to himself.
"Right here,Right now" he whispered to Shay.
Shay
His lips were soft, on hers, and brought her the beginnings of a calm, peacefulness, that would assist her in her 'recovery' process. But when he placed her hand on his still stiff, and throbbing erection, that she felt so easily through his pants, the calm began to evaporate, and be replaced with her need to satisfy him, as he'd done for her.
The only problem with those thoughts were...she had nothing within her to move her into addressing his needs. He spoke of later, which was reassuring, but she felt horrible knowing he was going to sleep like that.
Somewhere, as lethargic sleep began to overtake her, she did register his words on drinking fluids when she awoke.
"Alright...I will...I'm sorry I'm so sleepy."
When he removed his clothes and wrapped her in the haven of his arms, she let the last vestiges of awareness slip away. She lightly petted his penis, and moved her hand to rest just above, on his smooth stomach.
She wasn't sure, but she thought he whispered something.
"I love you, Mathias."
And she smiled as she let go of the last of her consciousness.
Panos Mehalitsenos
Dawn was nearing and he heard a gently pawing at the front door to Shay's condo. His head swiveled around and he knew who was there. Standing he getnly walked over to the main door and opened it, let Birseis in.
Flea bag.
She wagged her tail and trotted past him inside. He closed the door without a sound and walked to where she stood.
The dog was sniffing at the bottom of Shay's door. She began to growl.
Immediatly Panos jumped to the door and began pounding on it.
Shay? Shay are you still in there? Shay it's Paul are you allright?
He put his hand on the door knob and was ready to enter if she didnt respond.
Shay
Something woke her, and it was loud and it was...pounding. She sat bolt upright in bed, and felt Mathias next to her. It was too dark to see anything, though with her blackout drapes it could have still been daylight outside.
She couldn't believe the pounding on the door hadn't woken Mathias. It gave her a funny feeling in her stomach to know he could sleep through such things. It made him seem even more vulnerable, and that scared her.
But she had to stop the pounding.
Crawling out on her side of the bed, her legs felt very wobbly, and she put her hand on the wall to stop herself from falling.
"Paul! I'm fine...just a sec!"
She tried to say it loud enough that he'd hear, and yet she didn't want to wake Mathias. She quickly realized she didn't need to worry though...
"Hang on!"
This time she yelled. She was trying to get to the door as fast as she can, but found she couldn't move too fast...or she got dizzy. Within seconds she did reach the door, and standing behind it - as she was still quite nude - she opened it a crack and stuck her head out.
"I'm fine Paul...still here. Give me a couple minutes and I'll be right out."
She closed the door again, and went to find her clothes.
Once she had found her jeans, and pulled them on, she went in search of her hoodie. Again though, the darkness was working against her, and she finally gave up. She went to her dresser, and reached into the second drawer, where she kept some t-shirts, pulled one out and over her head. Once she closed the drawer, and started for the door again, she smashed her foot into her vanity stool, and felt the bone in her little toe crack.
"Oh my god! OWWWWW!"
Catching herself from continuing to yell, she pressed her lips together, and just moaned more loudly. She guessed Paul would probably come tearing into the room now, and Mathias would be woken anyway. Grabbing her foot, she sat down on the stool, and squeezed her toe until the throbbing stopped.
Mathias
For once,Mathias' sleep was undisturbed by either nightmares or dreams. It was a peaceful non existence and he relished it.
*pound*pound*pound*
Waking up was always difficult for him. In his breathing days they would almost have to douse him with cold water and that had not changed when he crossed over.
Mathias struggled to awaken, but it was like surfacing after a deep dive...slow and fuzzy. He vaguely heard Shay's voice,a little loud and he struggled more.
"Oh my god! OWWWWW!"
His eyes snapped open at that. Mathias shook off his lethargy and scanned the room. It was still dark, and while he appreciated the blackness it did make seeing things difficult. He concentrated for a moment and extended his senses.
He noticed Shay, alone, sitting on her stool and holding her foot. Getting up,Mathias went over to Shay a concerned look on his face. He split his attention between her and the door.
"Are you ok love? And who in JEsu's name is pounding on the door??
Shay
"I'm fine...just ran my toe into the stool...and it's Paul at the door...for some reason he thought I was in trouble. I knew I should have spoken to him earlier...but..."
She stood up slowly, and kept her weight off the side of her injured foot. She put an arm around his neck, kissed the side of his mouth, and turned to the door.
"...I got distracted."
She laughed softly, and blushed a little, though she knew he couldn't see.
"Everything is okay...really, why don't you go back to sleep. I'm just going to tell him I'm okay, and I'll be back, alright?"
Mathias
Her mentioning of last night made him blush a little as well. He helped Shay up,making sure her arm was around his neck.
The mention of Paul dampened his mood slightly. He respected that Shay liked him, however Mathias did not like or trust the man,and this incident certainly did not help.
"Perhaps if we both go to the door,he will grasp the concept quicker.
And if not,*I* can explain things to him, Mathias thought
Shay
Shay didn't mind Mathias 'assisting' her, and half walked, half hobbled to the door.
She then remembered he wasn't dressed, and removed he arm from around his neck.
"Mathias...why don't you dress love. Then come and join us?"
She would explain things to Paul...she had taken care of herself pretty good so far, and wasn't concerned about continuing now.
Mathias
Mathias sighed at Shay's suggestion. She was right of course. But he was not happy with her walking unassisted and being alone with Paul.
I know how stubborn Shay is though - I won't win this battle. He chuckled mentally.
"Of course love, I will hurry I promise" He kissed her deeply and passionately. More than he intended - he wasn't jealous was he? He had no reason to be. But something about Paul just..well,better to get dressed quickly.
Shay
The kiss caught her off guard. A peck might have been expected, but not the intensity of what she'd got. She wasn't complaining though, and just nodded, as she closed the bedroom door behind her, and slowly limped to the living room.
Paul was sitting on the couch again, and she went over and sat down next to him. Without thinking, she put an arm around his shoulders and hugged him.
"Thanks for worrying...but see...I'm fine. In my hurry I rammed my toe into the stool...I think I need a night light."
She grinned and shrugged.
"But I thank you for being concerned. Who's your friend...and how in the world did it find you?"
Shay wasn't totally comfortable with dogs larger than her hand, but this one seemed well behaved.
Panos Mehalitsenos
Shay came out of the room and sat next to him. He tensed up a bit at the unespected hug but then relaxed. Hugs werent something he was used to, unless the female was drunk and about to die at least.
Flea bag? That's Birseis..she's sort of a watch dog. She was a present and she was with me at the club but when i left she must of stayed. Bull Mastiffs were once used as war dogs in acient Greece and Rome. She has a good scent. She can smell blood from far away. The last comment wasn't meant to alarm Shay it was just him realizing why Birseis had been growling at SHay's door. He looked at Shay now.
You seemed nervous or anxious when your friend showed up. Is everything allright? Where is he now? Jump out the window?
Mathias
Where is he now? Jump out the window?
Mathias stood in the doorway. "He,is right here, where he belongs."
Crossing the room to stand by Shay Mathias fixed his gaze on Paul and the dog. "My question would be - why are you still here?"
Looking at the dog he continued. " I can only assume you are sober now. Although your judgement in letting
*that* in here leads me to question that."
This was not his residence, but Mathias wanted Paul out of the condo and he and Shay's life as quickly as possible.
Panos Mehalitsenos
Oh my bad i didn't realize Shay's father was here.
Panos rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to Shay. This man was more arrogant than others he had run into. Who did he think he was?
'Keep your temper.' He told himself as he felt his blood get hotter.
Shay
Shay winced at Mathias' words, and looked up at him with a slightly annoyed look. Paul had been there first, well, tonight anyway. But Paul's words weren't any better, and she shot him an annoyed look as well.
"Paul is a guest, Mathias...and the dog...is fine...she seems well behaved."
Shay stood up and put an arm around Mathias' waist. Maybe that would assure him that everything was fine.
"But now that everyone knows everyone is fine, maybe we can all go back to bed for awhile. Then later I'll make us all breakfast?"
She looked to Paul, smiled, and then looked to Mathias, and gave his side a discreet squeeze...holding her breath as she hoped nothing further would be said or done to make the night even crazier.
Mathias
Oh my bad i didn't realize Shay's father was here.
Mathias took a deep breath. This is not your house and Shay needs you to be strong he reminded himself. I'd slap the arrogant little bastard Anabelle said. Not...now...he thought.
"You are,of course, correct love. I apologize for my lack of manners,"
He looked at Shay the entire time. The only thing he owed Paul was a lesson in respect.
Mathias leaned down and gave Shay a gentle kiss. " Please forgive me"
But Mathias didn't budge one bit
Panos Mehalitsenos
Flea bag is potty trained don't worry about her. I'm sorry if she makes your friend here uneasy, Birseis has a knack for picking out unsavory types from a crowd, as most dogs do.
He scracthed Birseis behind her ears. Her tail wagged slightly but she kept her gaze fixed on Mathias.
The mans fake nobility made Panos want to spit.
I'd like to talk to you real quick first Shay. Preferably, alone. He stressed his alone to sound as aggitated as he was.
Shay
Shay sighed...it just slipped out and couldn't be helped. If she ever forgot anything about this night, she would probably be dead.
She looked up to Mathias, hoping he'd not need her to ask.
Mathias
DonotsnaphisneckDonotsnaphisneckDonotsnaphisneckDonotsnaphisneck the mantra repeated in his mind. There was no way in hell he was going to leave Shay alone with Paul.
And then she looked at him. And Mathias knew he had no choice.
"I'll wait for you in bed, dear. Don't be long" he said, giving Shay another kiss before heading into the bedroom.
If someone was counting karma for restraint, I have just racked up several lifetimes worth he thought, closing the door.
Panos Mehalitsenos
He ran his hand absently across his scalp like he used to do when he had hair.
Shay, remember when i was talking about the wrong kind of people to be around?
Shay
She was so going to thank him for his patience and understanding later. She smiled when he kissed her and went back into the bedroom, and then sat down next to Paul again. She folded herself into the corner of the couch, and pulled a pillow into her lap, to hold.
"Yes...I remember."
Panos Mehalitsenos
There is a highly probable chance that Mr. Mathias in there is one of them. By off chance, do you know where he lives?
He reached down and picked up his shirt and pulled it back on. He leaned forward on his elbows which were propped up on his knees.
Shay
Considering his words, Shay only saw a concerned friend. However, his question on where Mathias lived caught her a little off guard.
"Paul...Mathias is someone I care about very much. I can assure you he would never hurt me, and that's really all I will discuss of him, with you.
For whatever reason the two of you clash. I'm sorry, because I care about you both, and it would be much easier for me if you at least got along. But I'm not naive...I know that isn't always possible.
However, I would hope you'd respect me enough to know I can choose my friends...and have been for several years now. I appreciate your concern, and value your opinion...but you need to allow me to make the decisions in my life.
Where Mathias lives shouldn't be of any concern to you, any more than where you live should be of concern to him...should it?"
Shay had gotten a second wind when she awoke a short time ago, but it was quickly petering out...she was starting to feel really tired again.
Panos Mehalitsenos
He winced at her words. They stung.
'If only she knew'. he cursed inside. His anger was getting the best of him. Frustration only egged it on. He stood up and faced her. A dark cloud passed over his eyes.
There are some people in this life that do not wish for the well being of others. I can not be sure but I have suspicions that your 'friend' may be one of them. These people live in a respectless world with one goal and one goal only. It's a pyramid game and the only way to the top is the remove the block ahead of you. Your in the most danger when someone is nice to you in this world. There is only one rule these people live by. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
He stepped to her front door and grabbed its handle.
Do me a favor today Shay, when the sun is out and the birds are singing, tear open your shades. If your friend stands to embrace you and smiles and remarks at the beauty of the day, then I was wrong and I appologize. If not, and you turn and find a pile of ash where had layed then i also appoligize. For then you have been tricked into the darkness.
He opened the door then and walked out with Birseis in tow. as he shut the door behind him he stopped and spoke one last time.
Those people will never find where I live.
Shay
Shay could see he was angry...and she understood it, a little, but the more he spoke the angrier she got herself.
When he got up and left, she jumped off the couch and ran to the door. Fortunately he was still there.
"Paul! Would you please come back inside...and not leave like this. I'd really like to talk about this...I don't want you leaving angry."
She saw that in her haste to stop him from leaving, she'd grabbed his arm, and now she let her hand drop. But she pleaded with him, with her eyes. If he left now, there was every chance they'd never get beyond this, and the budding friendship would probably just die away.
Panos Mehalitsenos
Panos looked down at Shay's hand on his arm and watched it fall away. He looked back at her face and saw that she really wanted him to just wait a minute.
He looked at Birseis and she wagged her tail. The sky was just starting to peak at the colors of a sunrise. He knew he didn't have alot of time.
Ten minutes. he said flatly and stepped back inside past her.
Shay
She had been listening to his words as he spoke, and she was starting to hear a lot more than she used to, in the words people were speaking to her. What Paul had said indicated quite clearly that he thought Mathias was a vampire. But how, and why was what Shay was more interested in now.
"Paul...you know about vampires...the ones who live in Nachton...you're afraid Mathias is a vampire and that's why I'll be harmed? Please...let's not play word games...is that what you were trying to tell me?"
Panos Mehalitsenos
He was surprized. She was direct and to the point. He had thought that with her writing a vampire book that she would laugh at him and try to blame it on his knowledge of her writing. But here she was blurting out his own thoughts right in front of him.
He sat grumpily back on the couch.
Yes.
Shay
She gave him an understanding smile, and again joined him on the couch. He reminded her so much of her younger brother, she had to resist rubbing his head. Somehow she wasn't sure he'd have appreciated that type of affection.
"Can you tell me how you know about vampires? And what it is about Mathias, that leads you to think he is one?"
With his knowledge of vampires, Shay's first inclination was that Paul was one as well. Had he not disguised his warning in riddles, and been more forthright about what he was telling her, she might have thought otherwise. But the more she listened to him, and really thought about his words, the more she had to wonder if everyone around her, here in Nachton, was a vampire.
Panos Mehalitsenos
He looked at her.
Because I am one.
He pulled his upper cheek back exposing his teeth and let his tounge caress over his fang.
Now to wait for her to either laugh or go running from the room. He thought grimly.
Why I think he may be one, I can't know for sure. Something doesnt sit right with his presence. Birseis smelled the scent of blood from your room earlier too. Another mino tip that something else was wrong about him.
Shay
Had this conversation taken place two days ago...Shay probably would have run from the room. But so much had happened tonight...at this point she wondered if anything could scare her, or surprise her.
She reached over and put a hand to Paul's cheek, just briefly. She moved slowly...she didn't want to scare him. She'd seen the way he acted a bit odd from her attentions. But she was a demonstrative person, and it was a natural reaction for her.
"So you are one...and you haven't hurt me. May I ask why? I will assume that it is not in all vampire's nature to attack all humans?"
Panos Mehalitsenos
I fully intended too the night we met. But you weren't afraid and you talked to me like it was not abnormal to run into a man on the street and chat. he snorted a little.
Then I didn't want to. You were normal to me. I wasn't used to that thats for sure. I also wasn't staying at my sisters house either. If you watch the news you'll see whos house it really was.
He grinned menacingly for a moment. He had heard the coverage on Meegans condo. They called the assailent, him, a 'disturbed individual'. He hoped Meegan had went inside and saw the present he left for her on her bed.
Shay
How strange that all he wanted was to be treated as a man. But he'd treated her as a normal woman...there was no reason for her not to treat him as a normal man.
His next words confused her though, and she noticed his grin didn't reach his eyes.
"Where you live doesn't matter to me...and I'm sorry but I've been a little busy lately, and have fallen behind on my Nachton current events. But I'm getting the impression you want to scare me now...has something changed between us? Have I done something to offend you?"
Panos Mehalitsenos
Ah..no. I was just remembering something...a present.
He spaced out for a moment and then shook his head.
I am old and i can't say that i have been anything but nasty my whole life. It's not until recently that I have found something to, uh..,give me some comfort. I do have an aunt here. Believe it or not.
Shay
"I believe it. I believe everything you tell me...I've no reason not to. And I'm glad you have someone here. An aunt is nice. But I hope you will still consider me a friend, Paul. Really. I would like to talk more, and get to know you better."
Shay could see the sky through the cracks in the window blinds, and it was turning from black to midnight blue. She got worried.
"Paul...I think, under the circumstances you're going to need to make a choice now though. I think dawn is coming. You are still welcome to stay if you want...otherwise, you may wish to go now."
Panos Mehalitsenos
He followed her gaze out the window. She was right. He could tell it in his actions as well, he was thinking much slower and soon he'd become very sluggish. He knew his limitations.
I still concider you a friend. I only hope you will concider me the same when you become enlightened by the news or by what other people say i am.
He looked down at Birseis and she was softly snoring away. If she thought it was safe then he decided he would as well. He would let Shay control his outcome this day. If he woke up to flames of the sun then so be it. He was tired and it was a weight off his chest to have told her, a human, what he really was.
I'll stay here today. Birseis seems to have decided you are trustworthy. I never thought otherwise either.
Taking his shoes back off he laid down on the couch facing her. Putting his legs behind her back.
I know i told you earlier last night that my aunt is one of those 'not nice people'. Well neither am I Shay. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree right? I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but you've earned the trust and protection of a monster. Odd as that sounds. You didn't even know it but I had you picked out to die, but somehow you changed that and all you did was talk. I have still yet to figure that out.
His eyes fell heavy and his voice was dropping off.
Maybe i'm getting soft.
Shay
Still glad he was staying, though she knew Mathias would be angrier than spit, Shay got up and found the pillow and comforter on the floor. She handed Paul the pillow, and stretched the comforter over him, folding it down across his waist.
His words concerned her...she wasn't sure if he was joking or not, but for now she wasn't going to worry. He had several opportunities to have attacked her, and he hadn't...he hadn't even come close. Shay had no reason to fear him, so she wouldn't.
She leaned down and kissed his forehead, as she would have her brother's. It also helped her maintain a feeling of normalcy...something he seemed to value.
"Sleep well Paul. I shall see you later."
She couldn't bring herself to consider the issue of her death...in this case it was easier to just ignore that comment.
She stood and watched as he appeared to fall asleep, and she quickly checked all the blinds to make sure they were securely closed.
A quick last look, and Shay returned to her bedroom.
Pausing outside the door, Shay hoped Mathais wasn't angry with her. She hadn't intended on taking so long, but under the circumstances she really couldn't very easily have just gotten up and walked away.
She opened the door, and slipped inside quietly. As soon as the door clicked closed, she was pulling the tshirt off, and then sliding out of her jeans, headed to Mathias' arms.
"Mathias...hold me please."
Mathias
Mathias wasn't precisely waiting by the door - but when Shay entered the bedroom he moved back to the bed. Under the circumstances some discretion was called for,and while he trusted Shay implicitly he did not extend the courtesy to Paul.
"Mathias...hold me please."
Something was wrong. Mathias wasn't the greatest judge of human nature, but he knew Shay's emotions as well as he knew his own and *something* was wrong. Considering her previous location he could only assume it involved Paul. Again he reminded himself that while storming in and ripping Paul's head off was the desired solution,it was not optimal nor did it help Shay. She was his primary concern and so he sublimating his urge to go medieval.
He wrapped his arms around Shay, drawing the covers over them both. The flowery scent of her hair tickled his nostrils as Mathias rested his head on hers, softly kissing Shay. Whatever troubled her would come out,but at Shay's pace - he wouldn't force her to share.
"I am here love,no worries now."
Shay
'This is so right,' Shay thought, as Mathias did exactly what she needed. He was the perfect man for her. Well...not perfect, but for the here and now he was. The future would present issues that she knew would be difficult and painful to deal with, but she refused to even consider those now.
"Mathias...Paul is a vampire, as well."
She had never thought twice about revealing Mathias to Paul...but she would never think twice about not lying to Mathias either. She would never hide things from him...other than the fun, surprising things. This certainly did not fit into that catagory.
Feeling that news would get his hackles up, Shay made sure her own arms were wrapped around him tightly, before she'd uttered the words. She had also remembered the condition he had been left in earlier, and now was more than ready to change that...providing he wanted it as well.
So after she said the words, Shay began sliding her hand across his chest, and toyed with his nipples. Her foot slid up his calf, and her lips began a journey that was beginning along his jaw and neck.
Mathias
"Mathias...Paul is a vampire, as well."
He tensed momentarily at that. And at that instant Mathias was reminded how little information he had given Shay. Something he needed to rectify.
"Was that all he told you? Did he mention a family or clan?"
He might be a clanless rogue - which would make him even more dangerous and complicate things. Mathias should take him out,but Paul was important to Shay and that trumped all other concerns.
Her actions were distracting him - did she think it was a turn on? No,of course not...perhaps she was just reacting to all of the craziness of the last few nights. It wasn't as if he doubted her or thought she was attracted to Paul.
Mathias sucked in air as Shay teased his nipples. She knew all the right buttons to push and he couldn't suppress a groan as her kisses lit a trail of fire along his neck.
"What...what about waking your guest?" He said, feeling his arousal growing again.
Shay
"No...he didn't mention a...clan? He has an aunt...he says she's not a very nice person...like him. He said..."
It was so different when Mathias asked her...she didn't hesitate to tell him what he wanted to know. It was as if by doing so, she was making things clearer to herself. And she didn't think of it as betraying Paul, because it was almost as if Mathias was and extension of her, and therefore he 'needed' to know. Besides, while she trusted Paul, so far...she trusted Mathias implicitly.
"...he said he had almost killed me...that night I met him, on the street...but because I spoke to him, as if he were 'normal'...well, even he didn't seem to truly understand it."
When she retold her conversation with Paul, Shay merely restated what was said. The seriousness, and terror that his words should have held, were absent. She was looking at Paul in a totally different light than Mathias would.
But as the words were made vocal, and she heard how they must sound to Mathias, she stilled.
"He asked me about you...warned me against you...but I deflected his questions, and his warnings...and he either decided I was not a source for his answers, or he just forgot."
Her hand began to move along his side, as she read him on the pads of her fingers, as if reading braille. Moving across his stomach, and lower, down the center of his groin, she purposely avoided his penis, and trailed down one thigh, and up the other. She was being a little wicked, but she didn't know if he wanted to talk more...now...or later.
"I think as long as I don't make any more loud noises...my guest will be sleeping for a while."
Mathias
Mathias let out a slow calming breath. Nope, that wasn't working. Paul had graduated from 'Annoying Prick' to 'Walking Pile of Ash'. He just didn't know it yet.
"I'm going to be honest with you love. I cannot find a compelling reason for me to let this Paul exist. That he didn't kill you and confessed such does not preclude him from doing so when he decides you haven't treated him right." He did not want to scare Shay, but he had to be honest with her about his feelings and an honest assessment of the situation.
"However,I am not going to confront Paul or toss him outside to greet the sun. One, he is your 'friend' " Mathias paused, trying to not let his anger seep through the words.
" And my respect for you outweighs any violent urges I may have. And secondly he is not aware that I know what he is - though certainly he must suspect. And that is to our advantage."
"I cannot pretend that nothing has changed. I ask that you are never alone with him. Also I will talk to someone with my clan and see if information exists on this Paul and his aunt."
Mathias held Shay close. "I am sorry you are having to deal with the dark side of our existence so soon love. I can only guess that Paul is telling you those things about me to keep us apart and you under his sway." Yet another reason Paul needed to taste sunlight soon.
Mathias realized that his talk of clans may have confused Shay. And some foreknowledge before meeting Ellis wouldn't hurt.
"Let me explain something before I confuse you further. There are 3 'clans' or 'families' of vampires. They are Anantya,Evenhet and Tacharan."
He paused a moment to let Shay digest the information before continuing. "Anantya is the oldest - the 'first family' as it were. Evenhet split from Anatya to be closer to humans and develop closer relations with them. They are more mortal friendly. Arin Bjorn, whom we met at the Ball is the Elder of Evenhet. And that brings us to Tacharan - the outcasts of the vampire world and my clan. I was originally of Anantya but I had a...disagreement...and walked my own path for a time." He closed his eyes. The memory still hurt even after all he had been through. "Tacharan controls Duibne Industries, much like Evenhet controls Meridian."
He stopped, there would be time to discuss things more in depth. Plus he wanted Shay to grasp things and if she had any questions Mathias could answer them.
Mathias smiled at Shay's teasing, even as his penis throbbed with need. He pulled her close for a deep kiss, sucking on her tongue.
"But love...if you don't make loud noises, how will I know what I am doing right?" He smirked as his hand slid under her shirt to caress her stiffening nipples.
Shay
As he spoke, occasionally she had the urge to respond. However, she chose to keep silent, and listen until he finished her education. There was so much about vampires that Shay marveled at...so many nuances to their existence that allowed them to coexist...she knew she had much to learn.
She didn't like giving up her independence, yet she understood why Mathias didn't want her alone with Paul. A small part of her even agreed. But a larger part of her refused to doubt her instincts, and they told her Paul was...not a threat to her.
But...because Mathias respected her enough to not go after Paul, she would respect his wishes, and keep someone with her when she was with Paul. So she nodded...rubbing her cheek against his chest, in agreement.
"Whatever his reasons were, I told him I have my own mind, and choose my own friends. I let him know, in no uncertain terms, that he had no influence over my feelings for or relationship with you. I didn't want him having 'any' false ideas about he and I. And he really seemed to accept that information without hesitation."
But Shay didn't want to talk about Paul any more. And Mathias had begun to explain more.
She was surprised to think of Arin Bjorn as a vampire...but that led her to wonder about Thaddeus...and Ginnie...and Alec... And who else had she met since coming to Nachton...Addison, Danielle, Claire? Were they all vampires...or might some of them been human like her...or familiars, as she would be soon.
When he told her about his liberation from Anantya, Shay had wanted to ask more...she was sure 'disagreement' was a white wash of what really had happened. And the news of Duibne and Meridian opened the doors to further questions as well...But his kiss silenced her mind to anything but the sounds of his presence, and she decided he was what she wanted to think about now.
Shay had never been a 'noisy' lover until Mathias, and his teasing caused her face to heat up.
"You always do 'everything' right...I'll just need to find another way to show you."
With that comment, her hand stroked his length, and she again nipped at his neck, before resuming her descent below the covers.
The feel of Mathias, in Shay's hands, was a wonderous thing. She couldn't get over the strength he had there. While she toyed with his nipples, and sucked one between her teeth, the pressure from her hands became stronger, and more insistent.
As she moved towards her goal, she became a little rougher than she had in the past...and her teeth became a little more prominent in her loving of him. She knew what she did to him would be nothing akin to the effect he had on her, but still she persisted.
Her bites were never hard enough to begin to tear the skin though, and as she still associated biting with pain, she soon went back to kissing, and tonguing his skin. Shortly thereafter she had blazed a trail down to where his raw, rigid maleness jutted from her hands.
Holding him to her lips, she let her hands go lax, and smiled when her lips kissed the tip of him. She wondered briefly if she should continue to tease him, and ran her tongue all the way down to the round orbs below.
Sucking first one inside her mouth, and then the other, she played with them as if they were plums. Her hands now softly caressing across the tops of his thighs, and up his stomach. She started making humming noises...quiet, but firm, humming noises, as she moved back and forth under his penis, and then decided more attention was needed elsewhere.
Shay had taunted him enough, she thought, and now felt he was nearing his climax. Raking her teeth, softly up the ridge, she began to concentrate on loving that part of him that gave her so much pleasure.
Mathias
Shay's teasing was like divine torment. It drove him crazy and he embraced that insanity, whimpering softly at every bite or kiss. He loved how she took control and how willingly he relinquished that control, giving himself over to her and trusting her completely. They really were two halves, only complete with one another.
Shay's breath was warm on his nipple and Mathias groaned, grasping her head, fingers wound in her hair. Her teeth gave the best kind of pain and he felt his erection twitch and pulse in her capable hands. "Oh my god Shay, don't stop please....please don't stop " He begged her..he needed this release needed her to be the cause of it.
Her ministrations were bringing him closer and closer to the edge and Mathias' breath quickened when he felt Shay's mouth encompass as much of him as she could. He knew it wouldn't be long and Mathias' slowed her rhythm down with his hand, even as his hips moved in time with her mouth.
"Shay!!..oh...oh...OH SHAY!!"
As pentup as Mathias was,his orgasm was sure to be intense, but when it happened he was taken aback. He tried to be quiet, even biting his lips but the waves of pleasure were too much. His back arched, hips thrusting forward involuntarily. The sheets were ripped from the bed as MAthias floundered in the wake of release. And yet Shay did not stop, her hand and mouth moving to drain every last bit of him.
After an eternity where pleasure reigned, capped by stars and fireworks,Mathias collapsed to the bed,a quivering heap of formless flesh...a human puddle - content and unmoving. He had no energy,no will - but he managed to give Shay a smile.
"Come to me,love of my life"
Shay
Mathias
"Oh my god Shay,don't stop please....please don't stop "
Even in the thought of teasing, there was no way she would have stopped now. But his words gave her reason to smile. It was good that she could drive him to this point - fair was fair.
But she was still weak from the earlier incident, and was glad when he did let go. She didn't let him alone though, until she felt him quiver under her lips, and then she knew he had nothing left. Then she knew she had returned to him, the love he'd shared earlier, with her.
She crawled up and sprawled out over him, as if they could exchange energies the way they'd exchanged passions. Head on his shoulder, arm across his chest, and leg across his leg, she giggled softly after kissing him tenderly.
"I guess 'I' did something right that time...from the sound of it? At least we won't need to worry about Paul dashing in to see if something was wrong."
And she giggled again, as she nibbled his chin, playfully. She really was worn out, but being so happy precluded her need of sleep, it seemed. But now that pleasure was a warm memory...vivid, but not pressing...Shay's thoughts turned to the evening ahead.
"I do hope everything goes well tonight. I...I just can't begin to tell you...I mean...Mathias...what if Ellis doesn't like me...or want me near you? Can she tell you...can she prevent us from being together?"
She knew whatever the truth was, Mathias would assure her everything would be fine...but she wondered if there was any danger in the meeting they had to attend.
Mathias
He understood her fears. She didn't know Ellis..but then did anyone? She was truly an enigma sometimes...inscrutable as much as she was wild and violent.
"It won't be an issue. All Ellis is concerned with is meeting you and knowing that you are committed. That's it. As harsh as it may sound love, she doesn't care how wonderful you are or that we are soulmates. Ellis' focus is strictly on the survival and prospering of Clan Tacharan. "
Mathias shifted so that Shay's head rested on his chest. HE loved the image of her resting there, arm draped over his chest. At that moment he felt like all was right with the world.
"However, for the sake of argument I will say this. If Ellis did not like you or forbid us I would sever my ties." Looking Shay directly in the eyes he continued. "Tacharan is my clan. You are my love,my soul and all that is good in my world. And I would charge the gates of hell to keep it. I love you Shay."
Noticing the yawn escape Shay's mouth he leaned down to kiss her eyes shut. "Now get some rest love,we have plans tonight. I will watch over you and keep you safe."
Shay
If it wasn't for the fact that she really was sleepy as all get out...and if it wasn't for the fact that she had never been as comfortable, or secure in her life...and if it wasn't for the fact that she was so totally full of love for this man, and ready to do whatever he wanted...she would have insisted they talk more.
But instead, when he kissed her eyelids, she just grinned, turned her head to the part of his chest, directly over his heart.
She knew he'd protect her, as much as he could, and she would do the same. It was what you did when you loved someone.
"Good night my love."
She whispered, and the grin remained as she drifted off.
Shay
As was to become the custom, when they were together, Shay awoke first.
Not moving, it was just too fantastic a feeling to wake up in his arms, Shay just opened her eyes, and let them adjust to the darkness. Small diffused spots of sunlight still shown on the ceiling, where they were able to escape to, from the tops of the drapes, but even they were fading fast. She figured it must be very late afternoon, or early evening.
And she was ravenous.
As if on cue, her stomach growled, and she grinned. But to go get something to eat would require leaving Mathias, and their bed...and she wasn't quite sure she was 'that' hungry.
She wished it had been lighter in the room...she wanted to see his face, in sleep. She wanted to see it free from worry lines, and concerned eyes. Instead she just imagined it...smiling at her, with love in his eyes, and she hugged him lightly.
And her stomach growled again. She couldn't supress a small groan, when she gently moved out of his arms, and turned to move off the bed. Not only was it a sense of loss to just be leaving his side, but her body was a bit of an achy mess. Her little toe still throbbed, from smashing it into the stool, the area on her thigh where Mathias had fed was still a bit tender, and the place between her legs was yet a bit sensitive...the feast after the famine, no doubt.
She sat up, and moved off the bed, trying to remember in which direction she'd thrown her tshirt and jeans. Gingerly she moved her uninjured foot along the floor, until she found the shirt. She bent down and went to pick it up, only to feel her jeans there, as well. Slipping out the bedroom, she peeked into the living room, and could see the outline of Paul, still on the couch. His dog moved, and whimpered softly.
"Shhh...its okay, go back to sleep."
She whispered, as if the dog could understand her. Then into the bathroom Shay turned, closed the door, and started up a hot shower. Her plan was to shower, redress, and see if she could whip up some eggs or something, without waking anyone. The task was a daunting one, but one that she seemed up for today. Later she'd be faced with a task, monumental, in comparison.
Panos Mehalitsenos
He woke to the sound of the shower running. The room was dark and he glanced at the blinds. The sun had gone back down.
Good. He had lived through the night even after telling Shay he was a vampire. Maybe she didnt believe him.
Sitting up he stretched and looked for his shoes. He had no intentions of staying any longer. It was too early to listen to Mathias try and command him around. He was already slightly annoyed with just the thought of it. That man was a headache with his possessivness of Shay.
He didn't covet her like he had Meegan. He wasn't here to steal Shay away. Shay had picked HIM up and brought him to her home. No matter what the jealous man was thinking he was wrong. He didn't even know Panos and he thought he could boss him around? Ridiculous.
He tied his shoes and grabbed his jacket as he heard the shower's water stop.
Bye Shay. He whispered, mostly to himself.
Quietly he stepped out the condo door with Birseis and tow. Her looked down at her and grinned.
It's hunting time my friend.
They took off in a dead run into the blossoming night as if they were racing each other. It felt good and was freeing to be moving so fast. Birseis next to him, never missed a beat. She was as fast as he was, much to his surprize. He laughed as she lolled her tounge out her mouth as if to say 'what this is easy!'.
With no where particular in mind the two went in search for this evenings dinner.
(ooc:Panos out)
Mathias
He awoke in darkness. that was not so bad, infact he preferred to do so. However,he also awoke without Shay in his arms and that simply wouldn't do.
The bathroom door was cracked slightly and Mathias heard the shower turn off and a door squeak open. a few moments later a damp Shay appeared, clad in a towel.
"Now that is a view I could spend eternity waking up to."
He smiled at Shay, truly everytime he saw her Mathias fell in love with her all over again. Each day brought some new discovery about this remarkable women that only reinforced what his heart told him - that they truly belonged together.
"Ready for our big night, love ?"
It was a light question, but Mathias knew the implications behind it. Tonight's meeting at the HoP was as big a commitment as anything could be.
He only hoped he and Paul could be civil to one another, surely Shay did not need more conflict from them
Shay
The shower felt heavenly. The hot needles of water seemed to penetrate her muscles, ridding her of any lingering soreness. It felt so good, she had no idea really, how long she stood under it before she remembered washing was a good thing.
She washed her hair first, and as the conditioner went to work she took care of her body. But rushing wasn't an option...and she was glad the condos had decently large hot water heaters. When she guessed she'd spent a shamefully long time in the shower, she turned the water off, and got out.
Wrapping her head in a towel, she pulled on the thick terrycloth robe she kept hanging on the back of the door. Her movements were still a little lethargic, but she could feel her energy returning as she moved about.
Leaving her robe unbelted, she proceeded to rub moisturizer all over. With the change in weather, and the air becoming drier than anything Shay had experienced in California, she found she needed something to keep her skin from drying out as well. Plus she loved the soft scent of musk and gardenias the cream left on her body. She'd ask Mathias later...what his favorite scents were...and smiled as she realized someone elses opinion now matter...even more than her own in certain circumstances.
She brushed her teeth, tied her damp curls up in a pony tail to be dealt with later, belted her robe, and walked barefoot out of the steamy room. Tiptoeing into the livingroom she saw the couch was vacant...blanket and pillow strewn about. She had to grin...Paul really was like her younger brother... Folding up the comforter, and grabbing the pillow, she returned them to their rightful places. She was sorry he'd felt the need to leave without saying goodbye, but decided it was probably for the best. At least she didn't have to face the tension between him and Mathias.
Checking her emails quickly, she read the one from her publisher. They wanted to meet with her in New York, soon, to discuss the outline for her current book. They were pleased with the reception her second book was getting, and it reminded Shay that she'd forgotten about its release, completely. She shook her head. She had so many other things on her mind now...but she couldn't let her writing fall behind. She loved Mathias beyond belief, but they both had commitments aside from each other.
Thinking it should be okay to wake Mathias now, she returned to the bedroom.
The love of her life
"Now that is a view I could spend eternity waking up to."
His words were welcome, and loving...but it reminded her that she didn't have an eternity with him. She wouldn't let such a thing color her emotions this morning though, and immediately went to him, and kissed him.
"It is nice to have someone...you...waiting here for me, as well."
And she was somewhat, happily, surprised to see how easily she'd been able to adjust to having him there.
The love of her life
"Ready for our big night, love ?"
"Only from the stand point that I wish it was over."
She snuggled against him, feeling very young now...very small...very worried. But again she didn't want him worrying about her, so she didn't address it.
"You'll be glad to know, Paul has left."
And, unceremoniously, her stomach chose that time to growl. She giggle, as she was sure Mathias couldn't help but hear that racket.
"I think now though...'I' need to feed."
It was becoming easier to talk about such things, but she wondered if that was good or not.
Mathias
"It is nice to have someone...you...waiting here for me, as well."
That reminded Mathias had been looking for a residence outside The Domicile. the idea of living with Shay crossed his mind, but he didn't want to ask - it just seemed too forward. Yes,because your making love every night and staying here is much more demure Annabelle said
"Love...as you know I had been looking for someplace to live. I had thought perhaps you and I could find a place together? It only makes sense as we are already spending so much time together..."
Gods he sounded like some love struck puppy - which to be honest he was.
"Only from the stand point that I wish it was over."
He understood that - this was a daunting action and not something to be taken lightly.
"It won't be long or involved Shay,Ellis just wants to meet you. Trust me,,it is nothing to dread."
Mathias moved her ponytail to the side, softly kissing the back and side of her neck, fingers lazily trailing her body. He enjoyed these quiet moments with Shay almost as much as he did their lovemaking. It was nice to be able to just relax with someone completely.
"You'll be glad to know, Paul has left."
He sighed at that. It wasn't untrue and Mathias did feel bad about it. He looked Shay in the eyes, taking her hands in his.
"I will be honest hon - I do not like Paul, nor do I see that situation changing anytime soon. However,he is your friend and he is important to you and I will respect that. which is a long winded way of saying I am sorry he is gone."
Mathias kissed shay on the tip of her pert nose before lying back, feeling her head on his chest.
"I think now though...'I' need to feed."
Chuckling,Mathias got out of bed, pulling on his jeans and t shirt from the previous night. Part of him wanted to take Shay again, feel himself inside her and explore their mutual passion. but he realized she needed her strength and breakfast did sound good.
"I make a great scrambled eggs and toast if you want"
It was true - he was a fairly decent cook - something he picked up living alone for so long. Plus the idea of cooking for Shay was not unpleasant.
Shay
When he broached the subject of living together, it reminded Shay she was going to suggest the same thing. However, she really loved her little condo, and wondered if he would mind just moving in. Besides having gone to the extra expense of having her 'panic room' installed, Shay now found even more comfort in knowing it was there.
"Mathias? I need to show you something...but you must promise me not to laugh. I know some people may think it's silly, but it offers me a great feeling of security. You will be the only other person - besides the contractor - who knows of it."
The other issues would be discussed momentarily, but she wanted to show him this now.
While he dressed she climbed out of bed and went to stand in the door way. When he joined her, she turned into the hall, and looked at the bookcase that was directly at the bottom of the hall...which was almost just outside her bedroom door.
"Remember...no laughing."
She smiled up at him...only afraid of the laughing because when she'd first had the idea she, herself, had found it somewhat humorous. She'd since understood the importance of the room, for her safety, and those she loved.
She reached up to the second shelf from the top, and pushed in the volume of 'Much Ado About Nothing'...a title she'd chosen when the idea for the room had first been initiated. The door swung inward, and she flipped the light switch as she went inside.
The room was about six feet by nine feet - certainly not huge, but large enough that she didn't anticipate any claustrophobic issues. Not that she ever had those kinds of problems before, but one never knew what one could handle until faced with the problem.
There was only a single cot, so another would be added...but there was also a chair, lamp, desk, mini fridge, safe, and even a sink. A cabinet at one end held several different methods of self defense, from her old police revolver, to an antique sword, blessed by a pope, and several other more unique pieces. There was enough stores to service two people for up to seven days...two humans...she now realized blood would need to be added as well - if they remained there.
She looked at him for an opinion.
"So...what do you think of my little hidey hole?"
Mathias
"So...what do you think of my little hidey hole?"
"I am very impressed Shay!"
Mathias wrapped his arm around Shay. This was quite a piece of work. A lot of forethought had gone into this and Mathias was in awe of Shay's planning capabilities.
Seeing the minifridge reminded Mathias of another supply need.
"Would it be possible to rig this to store blood? And do you have a separate air supply?" "Oh!! and is it fully enclosed?"
Normally Mathias thought tactically, plotting escape routes, paths to attack and such - 1000 years as a warrior will do that to you. However the hideyhole was almost perfect for what it was,and Mathias' admiration for Shay grew. He knew she was smart and capable, but this level of organization he didn't expect from almost anyone.
Shay
She beamed when he responded in such a positive manner. But as he asked his questions, she had to agree she hadn't thought of everything.
"I was just thinking about the blood supply...though I don't know what storing it requires...or where to get it...or the shelf life. "
She would need him to fill her in with that information.
"And yes, there is a ventilation system separate from the rest of the house, and a generator for back up. The walls are insulated with a special sound proofing material and lead lined...there is also a hook up for a monitor, with video cameras in the hallway, and outside, but I haven't had time to set those up yet."
She turned and pulled the door closed, and pushed a button...a loud metallic noise was made.
"It is virtually impossible to get in now...not even knowing what book is the key, will help."
She pushed the button again, and the bolts were retracted, the door opened, and she walked back out. She continued to grin...having his approval on such a thing meant a great deal. Though she doubted the odds of her...them...ever having to use it, just having it was comforting.
"So...what do you say...think we could co-exist here?"
She'd wrapped her arms around his waist, and waited for his answer. Either way she would be happy...staying here would just make her that much MORE happier.
"And...now...about those eggs...I'm sure you must be a hundred times better at the cooking thing than I am...I'd love some."
And standing on tip toes, she kept her eyes on his as she brushed her lips lightly against his.
Mathias
"I was just thinking about the blood supply...though I don't know what storing it requires...or where to get it...or the shelf life. "
"It shouldn't be too difficult love. I know someone I can speak with."
He would talk to Carol once things settled down - if anyone would know it was her.
"So...what do you say...think we could co-exist here?"
"I think I could co-exist with you in a cave. However, this is much better than a cave so it will do nicely." He smiled at Shay, and returned her light kisses with equally soft ones. This was a new adventure and he looked forward to finding out what lay ahead.
With a happy roar,Mathias picked up Shay, holding her tight. "I LOVE YOU SHALIMAR O'MANNON!!"
could most likely be heard several blocks away.
Carrying the still smiling Shay,Mathias headed into the kitchen and proceeded to make them both a wonderful breakfast.
