Rejection, is the greatest aphrodisiac.
- Madonna, Forbidden Love
Viv never ran on pack property; not in Australia and now not in Nachton. She couldn't, not with her Vyusher R'asa markings, risk being mistaken for someone else. Even though no one said it, it was clear that a mistake could (or would) be implied. Fitting in has never been a constant in her life, why would Nachton be any different.
She so enjoyed being with the Pipers; not for the attention, but for the camaraderie. Their unity was from common blood and tribulations. From fighting together and bleeding together. They belonged just by being unique in their abilities and strengths. Viv's job had changed over the years and doing evaluations on the Pipers had been recent, but she enjoyed talking with all of them.
Pushing herself to her top speed, she tried burning the ache from her heart. She dodged in between the trees, grazing the bark so close that it caught in her fur, pulling at her skin painfully. The night was just passed the apex and mother moon was slowly making her way back down in the sky. Being in wolf form made the pain easier to deal with, and if she could...some days, she'd always stay this way.
The situation with Brig was now becoming perilous, as well as intensely passionate. Was there something between them, something undeniable and prophetic? Something akin to rage began to burn in her gut thinking about him and his accusations about Charlie. It pushed her further, harder and the wind burned her already tearing eyes as she thought of Charlie and his sweet smile. Viv was attracted to Charlie, and she knew if it had been anywhere else...any other time...going to Charlie would be easier.
She ran through the edge of a familiar smelling lake and turned her head to search the scents when she plowed right into a drop off in the water. Paddling her way back up to the edge, she pulled herself out of the cool water and snorted. The entire city was a distraction to her - the odd, new smells of other wolves, so much bigger than in Australia. Much of both packs had migrated to Nachton, so much so that Viv wagered the wolf population in the forest was not as big as it appeared.
Her fur dripped with water, further ramping up her annoyance, and she shook furiously to the tip of her tail, shaking the moisture off. Her brown fur was a matted mess of puff now and she passed the lake to dive deep into the woods to dirty herself up even more. Moving quickly through the trees, she recognized the area and unconsciously moved north of the center of the reserve.
Dirt and mud was caking to her feet now, the sickly hot night making drying off that much more difficult, so she decided to just push at her high speed and hoped that the wind knocked the muck off. Diving into a bush, the branches pulled at her fur, snagging and leaving leaves and twigs on her coat when the bush suddenly thinned and it opened up into a clearing. Viv came to a screeching halt at the scents.
The big red was standing, hackles up and teeth bared, at the center of a clearing she was intimately familiar. Viv immediately pushed her ears forward, matching the red's angry dominance as its scent flooded her senses, mingling want with hate.
